. BIO .

“Artistry is like a stained glass window”, says Houston producer, MD Thompson, “...an artist takes all the pieces of his or her influences and experiences and creates a beautiful and unique creation from those pieces”.  He applies the analogy to all aspects of musical artistry – from vocal expression to song writing to musical styling as he works with up-and-coming artists to uncover their unique sound and hone their skills in preparation for careers making music to glorify God.
But perhaps this analogy of a stained glass window, of creating a work from many diverse elements also describes his background.  Although currently a Producer and Artist Development Consultant, in his past, MD has worked as a business management consultant, a music studio engineer, the front man of regional pop-rock group and an award-winning writer.  All of which followed his formal studies in music theory, business and psychology in college.  “I guess the diversity of skill requirements is what makes it all so interesting for me”, MD muses, “one of my strengths is in bringing the whole picture together and this job demands all the various elements of my seemingly random background”.
What is most important to him is the goal of focusing an artist on their walk with God.  “I feel God himself is an artist – it all starts with Him.  Truly seeking God will uncover artistry and vice versa.  I try to focus artists on defining this as their success first and foremost.  Monetary success, success on the charts, etc. may or may not follow but I don’t think God – or the world – needs chart toppers, they need individuals speaking the truth with true artistry.”
MD has a very clear vision of how a producer fits into this quest for artistry - “I feel a producer’s role is to create an environment for an artist to feel comfortable and grow.  My goal is to focus that individual’s talents and efforts into a successful end result.  To “season” an artist by leveraging the producer’s deeper level of experience while still creating something unique to the artist.  I don’t feel a producer should have too much of a signature - His or her legacy should not be so much a certain sound (that is the role of the artist) but a string of excellent statements made by the artists they have served.  Hence the name of his production company, “Ivory Tower Realizations”.  He explains, “I decided to put the word “Realizations” in the name because what I do is more than a production company.  I am all about wanting an artist to realize who they were made to be and to realize their full potential in that plan.
